Who did not have a hearty laugh with the movies Ang Tanging Ina, The Unkabogable Praybeyt Benjamin, Sisterakas or Beauty and the Bestie? These movies surely did not land on the box-office comedy hits for nothing. In fact most of these movies broke records as highest grossing film of all time. All of these movies were directed by Wenn V. Deramas who seemed to capture the heart of and tickle the viewers. Sad to say however there will be no more record-breaking highest grossing comedy movies from Direk Wenn to look forward to as he passed away at 6 a.m. on February 29, 2016 due to cardiac arrest.

His death will surely be a great loss to the Philippine movie industry. The versatility of his directing was shown not just in Comedy genre but as well as in horror, fantasy and drama. Many of his directed teleseryes left a mark to many Filipinos such as Mula sa Puso, Dyosa, Kokey, Volta and others. In 2014 his Maria Leonora Teresa definitely gave nightmares to those who watched it. Besides directing, Direk Wenn even wrote screenplays for Beauty and the Bestie, Ang Cute ng Ina Mo, Mula sa Puso (T.V. series) and Mula sa Puso (The movie).

At a young age of 49, Edwin Villanes Deramas who was born on May 11, 1966 was still on the peak of his career as a director. He finished his Hotel and Restaurant Management degree from University of Santo Tomas from where he honed his acting being a member of Teatro Tomasino. He worked as a waiter and in 1990 landed a job as a production assistant for the T.V. show Tatak Pilipino. His career as a director started to win the hearts of his viewers through the T.V. series, Mula sa Puso and the movie Maalaala Mo Kaya in 1997. Since 2010 he was acknowledged as Best Director, Most Popular Director and Most Popular Screenwriter.
